Boardwalks and Beachwalks

A few nights ago, my mom and I ventured out into the chilly, crisp winter air for a beachy adventure. We hopped into our Dodge pickup truck, turned up the classic rock station, and set off into the night.

Living near the water, my family discovered that beach drives are a fun, adventurous way to beat late night boredom. Our first stop along our beach drive was the Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve & Boardwalk.

The wooden boardwalk was like a mysterious maze placed directly in a tangle of mangroves and lit only by moonlight.

We walked to the end of the boardwalk where the mangroves hug the the intercoastal water. Many docks were decked out for the holidays with twinkly Christmas lights and magical, glowing palm trees.

Overlooking the water.

Thumbs up for a fun night!

My dog Sammie was so curious, yet scared of the crashing waves. First he’d run up to sniff the water and then he’d sprint in the opposite direction whenever the waves crashed onshore. Such a silly dog. ;)

The crowning moment of our late night adventure was making Sand Angels!!! They’re the closest thing to snow in Florida. ;)

We have a freeze warning going into effect tonight. It’s been getting into the 20s here at night- can you believe it? Hope you’re all staying warm! Time to go make a big mug of hot chocolate.

Looks like so much fun. I wish I could take my dog to the ocean, but I do not think they allow dogs on the beach here. I did hear about the freeze warning. I hope it doesn;t ruin too many crops, I know farmers were worried.
