Reinventing McDonald’s At Home

January 10, 2010

At school, I’ll admit I’ve had major cravings for the “Golden Arches” AKA the wonderful fast food joint, McDonald’s. Instead of spending my extra tip money from working at the ice cream parlor, I’ve tried to reinvent a few of McDonald’s tasty treats at home. Here are a few of my homemade McD’s knockoffs that are delicious and a lot healthier than the menu version too.

“Egg McMuffin”

Whole Wheat English Muffin Egg Sandwich with Canadian Bacon, Cheese, and Ketchup

“$1 Parfait”

Chobani All Natural Greek Yogurt with Total Cereal

“McCafe Iced Coffee”

Home brewed Iced Coffee with Eggnog Creamer

“French Fries”

Sweet Potatoes with Ketchup

And finally.. “The Real Deal”

McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets and Honey Mustard

Sorry, I had to. :)

What fast food meals do you reinvent in your kitchen?

I love McD’s fruit & yogurt parfait. So, I often create ‘yogurt messes’ at home. However, there is something about the McD’s version. Their yogurt is so rich and creamy, sometimes I just have to have the real thing!

please open your own restaurant, NOW! you’re recreations look better than the real thing :)

today I actually attempted to re-create a taco bell bean burrito (refried beans, tortilla, cheese, salsa) simple, yet delicioso! I also attempt to recreate starbies lattes all the time — but have no luck.

Haha, SO cute Shannon! You definitely have a knack with recreating your favorites, but there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to the original now and then. :)

Great post…….I try to do the same with the HUGE salads you get a restaurants at home, in fact now that I remember I actually remade McDonald’s “Southwest Chicken Salad” at home and love it! You can get the Newman’s dressings they use at the store so that made it easy.

I always love re-creating fast-food type meals at home! Ummm, last night’s dinner? A healthy spin on your basic quesadilla/veggie burger with fries…aka a tortilla grilled with hummus, mustard a veggie burger and salsa w/ sweet p fries and ketchup on the side :)

what a darn fabulous idea! I love this healthified micky D’s meal!! the sweet potato looks awesome! I always try to healthify meals that I have in restaurants! such as oatmeal panackes, or this one diner in my town as granola crusted french toast! I once made it with arnold thin, eggwhite wash and some granola, it was so good! (not the same) but sooo good!

  24. January 19, 2010 10:06 pm

I love how you reinvent those meals, so much healthier, and fresher! However I also LOVE how you allow yourself to induldge in the real deal, having it every now and again makes it so much more special!! <3 <3
