Mardi Gras
Last weekend, a few friends and I packed up our bags, loaded the car, and set off for a Mardi Gras road trip. The trip was only supposed to take about 8 hours, but a few setbacks (::cough:: my friend’s car broke down in Alabama ::cough cough:: ) caused us to arrive roughly 13 hours later. Better late than never, right?
Lets just say some SEC College Football rivalry has really made me hate Bama.. and this random breakdown in the middle of nowhere only added to it. (sorry if there are any Alabama readers out there
)
The road trip from Florida to New Orleans was incredibly dreary. It rained the entire time except for 10 minutes in Pensacola, Florida when it began snowing! Can you believe it?! Snow in Florida.. never thought I’d see the day.
Dear Mister Sunshine, we miss you. Love, Shannon
When we arrived in New Orleans, we hopped onto a ferry that took us down the Mississippi River to Bourbon Street.
My friend Matt and I.
About thirty minutes later we entered into the madness that was Bourbon Street.
We stopped to dance to the beats of a drummer on the side of the street. His drums were six plastic buckets!
Can’t go to Mardi Gras without trying on a pink mask, right?
We ordered oysters at a fancy restaurant along the street…
Maybe if they were fried they would taste better. #nomnomnom
These playful folks had beads on the end of a fishing line that they bobbed up and down for the people on the street to catch. My friends and I jumped up and down for about thirty minutes but we could never get them!
It sure the heck was a workout though.
Apparently the camera couldn’t capture the awesomeness of our dance moves.
On Sunday we headed back home, but made a quick pit stop in Mississippi to watch a random parade that was occurring in a small town along the interstate.
Overall, it was a really fun and adventurous trip! I highly recommend everyone visit Mardi Gras or at least the town of “Nawlinzzz” once in their life. From its historic jazz background to its upbeat nightlife, New Orleans is a city that I will never forget.
(Other than the part when we started buying Grenades and Hurricanes….)

OMG, that sounds like so much fun! Even the mishaps getting there just add to the adventure.

I’m so jealous! The only thing I’ve ever done to celebrte Mardi Gras is drink a Hurricainne (not that it’s a bad way to celebrate, but you know).
Looks like SUCH a fun time!!

You two look cute together! Looks like sooooo much fun!
Looks like so much fun. They celebrate Carnaval here so it was similar but not nearly as crzy. Mostly singing and dancing and what are known as moral plays.
Mardi Gras road trip?! I’m jealous. I was under a giant rock, writing a paper on mardi gras. Needless to say, two days later was my birthday and I made up for it that night, haha!

Haha I love the road trip action! I agree NO and Mardi Gras should be on everyone’s bucket list.
So jealous you got to go to Mardi Gras! Lucky girl–there is always so much more fun stuff going on down south then up north.
