I’m a Pizza Hippie
Hello friends! It’s the start to a beautiful weekend here in Gainesville, Florida. The sky is a deep royal blue and the warm sun is radiantly shining through the white puffy clouds. Ah, it’s finally beginning to feel and look a lot like sweet summertime. Kenny Chesney anyone?
For lunch today I met up with Jenny and Lindsey at Satchel’s Pizza. Satchel’s is a local Gainesville landmark known for its funky decorations, cash only payment system, and one faithful pizza oven. A blogger meet-up two times in one week? Yes please!
For lunch, we curled up into an old VW van decked out in funky Christmas lights and covered in permanent marker messages. You can’t help but fall in love with this ultra cool hippie dining experience.
The girls and I all ordered the lunch special that included the famous Satch Salad and a one topping slice of pizza for only $6.50– a pretty good deal for us college folks.
As you can see, there were a ton of pizza toppings to choose from– all fresh and delicious. I seriously could have ordered about 10 of them they all looked so good. My dream pizza topping combination would include spinach, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, banana peppers, feta, and bacon. That’s right, mmm bacon.
When the Satch Salad arrived, we instantly dove in. The lettuce was tossed with carrots, cucumbers, apples, red onion, Romano cheese, tomatoes, almonds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, pecans. The inner salad lover in me could have had at least three more bowls of this, but I knew I had to save room for my big ol’ slab of pizza.
For my topping I chose roasted red peppers, which turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment. I was hoping there would be more than just three skinny little pieces of it, but overall the pizza was still really good! A few weeks ago, I tried Satchel’s Deep Dish Pizza with olives, ham, and pineapple and it was absolutely the best pizza I’ve ever had. If you ever go to Satchel’s, please try their deep dish.. you won’t regret it.
During lunch we got a little creative with Jenny’s permanent marker and scribbled a few of our own messages inside the van.
After we finished eating, we walked around back to explore the Lightnin’ Salvage which is a junk museum and gift shop all in one.
You’d be quite surprised to see the random items they transform into eclectic pieces of art. For example, these mop drainers sure do make a nice wall decoration, don’tcha think?
Overall, lunch was a success! Thank you Jenny & Lindsey for another amazing food-filled day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Do you have a favorite funky and eclectic restaurant in your town?

Hey!! Thanks for stopping by my blog. woohooo representing Pinellas county;). I love finding local food bloggers, too. It seems like everyone lives in Orlando, though! We should meet up sometime and make everyone else jealous of a cool blogger meet-up:) Thanks for stopping by. See you ’round the blogosphere.
