Cheez-borger! Jelly-borger!

August 22, 2010

Let’s talk cheeseburgers. CHEEZBORGERS that is.

(creepy voice)

(I swear the cat has nothing to do with the recipe featured below)

Last weekend I had the awesome opportunity to venture out with 14 other food bloggers on the Tastebud Tourof Chicago. During the tour, we visited the infamous Billy Goat Tavern— a historic joint featured on Saturday Night Live with darn good cheeseburgers.

Read more about the Billy Goat Tavern’s history and the curse of the billy goat here.

Towards the end of the tour (20 lbs of food later), the kind folks with Marina Maher Communication presented us the opporunity to win an epic prize if we created a recipe inspired by anything we ate on the tour.

I have a major thing for burgers…… so I stuck with the Billy Goat Tavern.

Here is an original recipe inspired by THE ONE AND ONLY Cheezborger— only without the cheez… oh wait, and without the borger. What the heck did I do to this recipe?!?!?

But holy mother of pearl I promise you, it tastes good.

Jelly-borger!

Rocket Scientist Ingredients:

- Trader Joe’s Sunflower Seed Butter (or any other nut butter)

- Jelly

- Chocolate Protein Powder

- Arnold Select 100% Whole Grain Sandwich Thins

- Cool Whip

Directions:

First, take off the cap from the jelly bottle. Weird? Yes. Awesome? You better believe it.

Second, cut out a mini burger top from the Sandwich Thin.

Third, pretend like you’re 5 and that the bread is a muppet.

Herrow there.

Fourth, back away from the bread…

Fifth, add a layer of peanut butter. Creamy PB if you’re cool.. I kid I kid.

Sixth, add some jiggly jelly.

Seventh, dollop some Cool Whip and Chocolate Protein Powder on top.

PS Don’t you just love the word ‘dollop’? I feel so dainty. Or fat. Can’t tell which one.

Finally,  top it off with the another circle cut-out of the Sandwich Thin.

You can make about 10 mini Jelly-Borgers out of 1 Sandwich Thin.

This recipe was just for fun, feel free to make one big Jelly-borger. :) It’s up to you! Enjoy!
