The City That Never Sleeps

July 12, 2011

Hmm..

I think what they were really referring to was the city in the summertime.

watersideomg

5 million degrees, creaky air conditioner unit, humid 300 sq ft apartment, attempting to sleep/sticking to the futon.

Yup, I think that’s what they really meant.

Yesterday, my training schedule called for an Easy 3 miles.

Sweet! I can do that. I just ran 6 on Saturday.. definitely a piece of cake right?!

Wrong-o.

Omgawd it was the toughest 3 miles I think I’ve ever run. Every second, I kept staring at my iPod to see how much longer I had to go.

shweaty

Obligatory puppy face.

A mixture of the insane humidity, hurricane-like wind & this 1 girl I saw running with her hair down reallyyyyy annoyed me (as lame as that is haha).

Who runs with their hair down?!

I don’t get it.

wataaa

The water fountain at the end of the run definitely saved the day.

Slurp slurp.

With this crazy summer heat, I’ve found a glorious appreciation for skirts,

work

Hair buns that take approximately .06 milliseconds to throw up,

(sorry for the ridiculous pose.. I fail.)

work3

Hazelnut iced coffee!

work2

x’s 2.

iced coffee

And eating lunch in Bryant Park.

summa rolls

Shrimp Summer Rolls… how I love thee.

How do you survive working out in this heat?

I completely avoid running when its hot, haha. I can’t stand it! Girls running with the hair down would annoy me too.

LOVE your hair up in a bun like that – you are such a beauty! I ran 2 miles outdoors in 100 degree heat this afternoon as part of a CrossFit workout. VOMIT. I still don’t feel quite right. :) Oh, and girl running with her hair down makes me punchy. How can anyone do that??

It’s hot as hell here.. you already know what Florida summers are like. disgusting. I wait until late to run I left last night at 7:15 and it was tolerable. I’m not a early morning person, so running early isn’t happening, my legs just won’t go unless they are racing.

    Love your outfit, super cute!

Summer exercise is intense in the heat! I think the only way to beat it is to exercise early or late, but even that can be tough.

I can’t even go for a walk without my hair up… I don’t know what that girl was thinking. ;)

I think to myself how much I secretly love being insanely sweaty. Like the arms, legs, every square inch of your body that’s covered in sweat. Kinda gross I know but it reminds me when I used to play basketball in a super hot gym with no ac for hours on end. And I feel like I get a “better” workout when I sweat way more. Keep truckin’ woman!

hahah If I saw a girl with her hair down running I’m afraid I may scream at her!!! I did a 5 miler race in central park a couple of weeks ago and I saw a women with full on makeup — like really!? Did she not think it’d melt after 5miles in 70 degree weather and 80% humidity!?

I really don’t know how I survive working out in this heat – a miracle? Bringing water definitely helps/keeps me alive. I also discovered this week, that if you run before 7am the sun is a lot less intense.

ha! I always wonder when people workout with their hair down too. Maybe she forgot a twistie and wanted to do it anyway? Who knows.
Iced coffee is a must for summer!

    Those rolls look delicious!!

    i don’t understand working out w/o a hair tie…mind boggling :(

  11. July 14, 2011 12:48 pm

    Love your outfits <3

  12. July 14, 2011 3:33 pm

I usually run at dusk when it starts to cool down a wee bit. That and the sun is low enough as to be out of my face! LOL

  13. July 14, 2011 3:55 pm

The humidity has been ROUGH lately. But just think how much better the weather will feel come Marathon Day! :)

Lemme know next time you’re in Bryant Park for lunch. My office is two secs away from the park!!

runs like that suck, when time is going at slug-speed and each step feels like an eternity!! lol. your lunch salad is very impressive- looks so balanced and delicious!

  15. July 16, 2011 10:32 am

I LOVE that you are wearing a cut off t-shirt to run in! I do that all the time, but sometimes I feel like I get weird looks because of it.

  16. July 17, 2011 4:07 am

It is 50-60 degrees in North Seattle at night… Jealous? ;) So happy you are living up the Summer in NYC, you look so happy :D

As far as exercising in the heat – I either go super early if I have to do something outside, or I hit the gym for strength training/walking on the treadmill (so I can watch TV because I am super lame and don’t have one), or I go to yoga or something. Running during the summer is a biznatch.

As far as people exercising with their hair down – drives.me.crazy. There’s always girls with long hair down at yoga. I think it’s weirdddd.

    great post.
I also like the small icons of the sunshine and silverare on your blog header. I normally wouldn’t have thought twice about it, but I just saw those exact icons YESTERDAY in the Picasa photo editor. You put yours to good use.
